The streets of town are vibrant with the colors and scents of roses. displayed in splendid composition they adorn the palaces and shop windows in the heart of town. bakers provide products with traditional tastes: tuscan bread, flatbread, etc

The Chianti rose, deep pink, resistant to cold and cultivated only in San Casciano, is the star of one of the finest events nationwide, “Roses, Bread and Wine”, a flower mart organized by the town council with funding from Chianti Banca and the help of local wineries and merchants at the Centro Commerciale Naturale. A May weekend rich in special events for the thousands of visitors (about 15,000) who every year flock to the old part of town, inebriated by the colors and fragrance of this noble flower. Along with the roses the festival features the local wines & foods that pay tribute to fine Chianti cooking: bread, salted flatbread, wines and meats from the local bakeries, wineries and butchers, who offer tastings. Open for the occasion are the museum, the town’s ancient churches and the Italianate gardens of Villa Poggio Torselli, a national monument.
